Parking for Sheffield Castle Square
Sheffield Castle Square has a long and fascinating history. Originally known as ‘The Shambles’, it acted as a marketplace from the late 13th Century. During the Second World War, Market Place, as it had become known, was razed to the ground by German bombers. A roundabout was built around the resulting ‘Hole in the Ground' and the crater excavated to house small shops and cafes and a 2000-gallon fish tank. In 1994, this was closed and filled in to be replaced with Sheffield Castle Square - a small plaza with shops, place to eat and patches of greenery.
