Cardiff Castle boasts more than 2,000 years of history, with its Norman motte and bailey built on top of a Roman fort, before various medieval additions were added while the castle was under repeated attack during the medieval period. Home to the Marquesses of Bute from 1776, it was turned into the current “fairytale” castle before being given to the people of Cardiff in 1947.
